Anyone Know any Good Albums?
So, each day, I get up and take Liz to work. We usually get together for lunch and then I pick her up at the end of the day. Then, most nights, we're off to a soccer game or a softball game or some such place. All in all, I usually spend a little over an hour in my car every day. This would really not be such a big deal if the radio stations around here weren't so horrible.
Of all the radio stations in Rochester, there are only 2 that are worth listening to at all. Among those two, I can listen to the classic rock station that has a full track list of about 20 songs and, outside of some Zeppelin, Stones, and the Eagles, they don't play much that's interesting. The other station is the classic rock/new rock fusion station (every city has one). As usual, these channels have as many commercials and audio effects to exclaim what station you're listening to as they have music. The music is usually pretty good but only the chart-topping stuff makes it on air and their "new rock" is generally quite old. And, of course, in the mornings, they have to pipe out the syndicated version of the Bob & Tom show, which I usually find quite boring.
*Sigh*
So, in the end, I usually end up listening to my CD's instead of the radio. For Christmas, I had gotten Audioslave and Good Charlotte albums but I've listened to each one a hundred or more times. I recently picked up The Distillers new album, Coral Fang, as well. That one wasn't bad, but it's nothing to write home about.
Well, to make a very long story short, I need a new CD (or two). Anyone have any ideas? I've caught a bit of Evanescence lately and I have to admit that their lead singer, Amy Lee, has a great voice, but their latest album, Fallen, seems to be getting pretty mixed reviews. A consistent theme is that all of the tracks essentially sound the same. So I'm not entirely certain if I want to grab that album or just get a couple singles off iTunes.
Anyway, anyone know any really good albums to check out? Just let me know if you do.

Ok c-mac, here's some that can't miss:
david bowie - "ziggy stardust" This is from 1973 or so, by far my favorite david bowie record. has some great hard rocking songs, some ballads thrown in. literally every song is great. and great for driving too. just remember to turn it up loud.
white stripes - "white blood cells" Their third record which made them famous. I've listened to this so much that I wore out the jewel case and had to replace it 3 times.
beck -'odelay' or 'midnite vultures'. I don't know how you feel about beck, but both these records are great for parties, dancing, or when you are driving in your car screaming nonsense at the top of your lungs.
more bands to check out, all of which rock: spoon, the strokes, pavement, the von bondies, les savy fav, hot hot heat, and built to spill.

yo playah. i think you should check out The Rolling Stones' "Forty Licks". Its no album, just a greatest hits compilation, but its put together well and there is minimal filler/new shit over 2 discs.
Also, I'm gonna offshoot Nick's suggestion and recommend "Elephant" by White Stripes, the newest release and actually my favorite. You really can't go wring with either, especially if your spending 10,15, 20 minute spurts in the car every day.
For my money, "Are You Experienced?" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience is the one of the best beginning-to-end albums to crank it up and rock out with. Groovy, baby.
Finally, for the drive home from work, after a Saturday night bender at the local dive, or even on one of your 5-hour trips coming home, I strongly suggest Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue". Its the definition of cool.

Thanks for the tips, fellas. You know, I've actually already got Kind of Blue - that CD rocks, although it's been a while since I've listened to it. Time to pull that one out again, I think.
I also have Jimi Hendrix BBC sessions - it's not as polished as any stuff you'd find on his normal albums, but there's plenty of ad-libbing going on to keep the music interesting - it's like listening to Hendrix for the first time all over again. Rock on.
Thanks again, guys. I imagine I'll be checking these out soon. If you come up with any more, let me know.

I've been listening to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes a lot. (gimmegimmes.com) It's an all-star punk band that gets together to do covers. Great to drive along and sing to. Only real issue is when you're at a stop sign screaming "You make me feel/You make me feel/You make me feel like a natural woman", and the guy in the next car over looks at you crazy.
PS: apparently Blogger doesn't work on Firefox 0.9.3 on Linux. The "Post a comment" link didn't do anything. OTOH, Firefox 0.9.3 on Windows worked like a champ *shrug*

Nevermind. Apparently I just had to close Firefox and try again.
Another CD I like is Christina Aguilera "Stripped" It's a kinda guilty pleasure CD, but the songs are amazing. Good collection of rap and pop rock and blues.
