And the Axe Stays Put

So, unless you live under a shell or were entirely inundated with replays of the end of the USC/ND game this weekend, you know that the Badgers won this weekend, against Minnesota. In case you didn't catch it, let me fill you in from my point of view, which was in the 5th row of the Metrodome, watching the game...

For most of the game, the Gophers fans were feeling pretty good about themselves, even though I was astounded to note that, aside from the student section, the dome was about half yellow and half red. When Russell plunged into the end zone to put the Gophers up by 10 with only 3:27 to play, the Gophers fans were feeling even better about themselves and proceeded to gloat over some of us Badger fans in the immediate area. Then, the Badgers scored on a 21 yard pass with 2:10 to play and, while the Gophers fans were still feeling good, they quieted down a bit. And when the Badgers stopped the Gophers deep in their own end and had to punt the ball away with 35 seconds left, the fans were nearly silent. Then, of course, the punt was blocked and the Badgers recovered in the end zone to take a 4 point lead with only 30 seconds to play. The Gophers fans were stunned - honestly I didn't notice too much, though, because I was busy jumping up and down. And, finally, when the kick returner fumbled the ball away to the Badgers on the ensuing kickoff, the Gophers fans simply left. :D What a game!

Liz and I were pleased to see that the Badger marching band had made the trip to the cities and, despite the awful acoustics of the Metrodome, still put on a very good show. As luck would have it, Liz has two cousins that play in the band and, while they were walking by in front of us, we managed to catch one of 'em, so we got a chance to visit with them for a while.

After the game, we went out to a bar to get a few drinks and wait for the crowd to ge tout of town. While we sat there drinking and watching the other football games on TV, Lagatta came walking into the place. So I ran over to him to say "Hi" and see how he was doing. Apparently, he was at the game, but left early as he was quite disgusted. Silly boy. Of course, by the time I found him, he was quite inebriated and I believe Mandy's job was to ensure that he didn't physically injure himself. :D

Aside from that, it was a pretty quiet weekend. Liz hasn't been feeling too well. She made it through game-day, but wasn't in top form. Yesterday, however, she wasn't doing too well, at all. She just spent most of the day watching football under a blanket and knitting. I think she was doing a little better this morning. Hopefully, she'll be back to top form soon.

Anyway, I'm off. Catch y'all later.

And You Thought Your High School Mascot was Bad...

Granted, most of you reading this were Truckers, but I don't know if anyone is worse off than the Jordan High School Beetdiggers.

Someday, I want to hear that the Beetdiggers win some huge tournament.

When It Rains, It Pours

I'm not actually referring to the Packers' sudden offensive splurge yesterday (although it would be fitting). Rather, I'm referring to the bevy of quality athletics competitions that will be televised this evening. Monday Night Football promises to be a great game between the Chargers and the Steelers, made even more intriguing by the fact that my fantasy football team has two players in that game, as does my opponent's team. Game 5 between the Angels and Yanks should be a doozy - loser is out. And, of course, on my new favorite channel, OLN, the Pens will be on TV so I can watch Mario and "Sid the Kid" duke it out with Buffalo. Oh, what to do...what to do... Oh clicker, how I love you...

Oh, Outdoor Life Network...How Do I Love Thee?

Yeah, so I spent pretty much all night last night watching OLN. While you may wonder what show starring Ted Nugent I was watching (his newest is apparently called "Wanted: Ted or Alive), I was actually watching hockey on opening night, which has now moved from ESPN to OLN. The Pens got smoked by New Jersey 5-1, but I got to spend the night watching the Flyers take on the Rangers, which turned out to be an awesome game. Down 3-1, the Rangers came back to score 4 unanswered (including 3 in the final period) to win 5-3. Great game. Man, I'm glad hockey's back. And, what's better? The Badgers should have a wicked nasty team this year. They're ranked 14th overall to start the season, but with the talent they have coming back this season, I expect them to get higher than that.

And on a side note, has anyone out there checked out the new Franz Ferdinand album, "You Could Have It So Much Better"? While I enjoyed their self-titled debut album, I didn't seem to get into it as much as most folks did. This new one, however, is awesome. I've been listening to it a lot over the last few days and I just love it, from beginning to end. Awesome album - check it out, if you get a chance.

Hockey, Anyone?

Okay, let's just set aside for a moment that the NHL season starts tonight (although that's damn cool). I just found out that the Badgers will be playing a fabulous game of outdoor hockey this season against Ohio State...at Lambeau. The game will be on February 11th at 3 PM. :D So, anyone wanna go? Tickets go on sale on the 19th and I might try to grab a bunch if people are interested in going.

Drop me a line, if you're interested.

Oh yeah - Go PENS!

Kittens...and such...

So, as childish as it may seem, I find it entirely impossible to look at a kitten without smiling. And, now that my sister got a new kitten (named Friday), I thought I'd put it out here for all to enjoy.

She's sitting on the couch, just to the left of this post. ;)
